You may have seen this chart making the rounds on the socials recently. It shows a rapid decline in ChatGPT usage at the end of the school year, suggesting students may be over-relying on AI programs to complete their homework for them.

I like to believe much of that usage was well-intentioned. I imagine it is tough for students to identify the line between cheating and being efficient when using an AI platform, and I try to always offer the benefit of the doubt.

But I also taught high school at all levels and abilities for fifteen years and have witnessed the full spectrum of cheating.
